SOLD! Resurrected Powers vintage hall chair goes to auction winner

UPDATE: This silent auction has closed and the winning $200 bid was submitted by Dave Yak! Thanks, Dave, and all the other bidders for participating! Our next silent auction item is a vintage Burroughs adding machine. In the future we hope to host silent auctions at all ReStore locations.

If you’re a fan of the Habitat ReStore you understand that every day, minute by minute, the inventory changes, and treasures are there to be discovered. Like this fascinating piece of local history. This vintage hall chair/umbrella stand was made by the Powers Furniture Company. Ira F. Powers started manufacturing furniture in Portland, Oregon in 1875. His son succeeded him in the business until his death in 1933.  This chair may well be close to 100 years old!

This stately chair measures 76″ x 23″ x 16″ and features a beveled mirror and the Powers stamp on the back.

We are auctioning off this wonderful Powers hall chair at the Beaverton ReStore. Come inspect it and place a bid before 3pm, Thursday, December 20, when the auction closes. Bidding must be made in person, but of course, you don’t need to be present to win.

Just so you know, the chair was in a pretty rough state when we received it, but everyone could see this hall chair had a character and charm to cherish. Fortunately, Mark Brown–a very talented craftsman and Beaverton ReStore volunteer–put the pieces together again. Mark documented some of the steps below.
