We are thrilled to announce our “Designing with a Purpose” Series in partnership with Heritage School of Interior Design to bring you an inspiring series that proves great interior design can make a difference.

Each month, we will feature Stephanie Thornton Plymale, CEO and Founder of Heritage School of Interior Design, and one of Portland’s talented interior designers as they create a beautiful space using furniture, décor, and treasures sourced entirely from the ReStore. Along the way, they’ll be sharing practical design tips, shopping strategies, pricing insights, and the incredible savings that can be found at the ReStore all while supporting a meaningful cause.
Each series will feature items exclusively found at that ReStore location. At their end of their visit, there will be a styled vignette on a display for one week. All items will be available for purchase after a week.
Let’s get started!
Our first featured designer is Janis Howard, a beloved instructor at Heritage School of Interior Design for more than 20 years. Janis has guided and inspired generations of students through her passion for interior design and her personable, engaging teaching style. Her commitment to education and mentorship has made a lasting impact on hundreds of aspiring designers throughout her career at HSID. Janis has contributed to several notable show home projects, including the 2000 Street of Dreams in collaboration with Macadam Floor and Furniture, which fully furnished two of the featured homes. She was also part of the team that decorated the Galaxy Show Home, which earned first place for interior design in the Street of New Beginnings show.
Thrift Shopping Tips
Interior designer Janis Howard shares her expert tips for selecting tile, rugs, and vintage dishes while creating a charming cottage-inspired space. When you shop at the ReStore, beautiful design can be both inspiring and impactful.
Styling the Vignette
Our featured designer, Janis Howard, has created a warm and inviting Cottage Core room using treasures sourced entirely from the Gresham ReStore. Every carefully chosen piece proves that timeless style doesn’t have to come with a high price tag. Best of all, this beautifully designed room will be available for purchase next week, giving you the opportunity to bring the look home while supporting an incredible cause.
Floor Plan Tips & Tricks
Every beautiful room begins with a thoughtful plan. In Part 4 of our Design with a Purpose series, Janis Howard shares the vision behind her Cottage Core design and explains how every piece was carefully selected to create a home that is both beautiful and functional.
