Meyer Sign Co. Donates Energy Efficient Sign

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

Whenever you see the ReStore sign above the new Washington County ReStore, know that you are looking at an energy efficient sign built by Meyer Sign Company. As you admire the sign, you should know we’ve got bragging rights as Oregon’s first ever outdoor electrical sign to earn the UL Energy Certified Green Leaf label.

Not only did Meyer Sign Company design and build the ReStore sign to the strict energy saving requirements of the Green Leaf label, Mary Meyer, co-owner, donated the $8,000 sign to the ReStore. The symbolism of this gift eloquently epitomizes the mission of the ReStore. The donation gives us more funds to dedicate to Habitat’s homebuilding efforts and the sign reduces demand on our natural resources. Most notably, it represents what one person’s heartfelt desire to help others can accomplish. Thank you Mary Meyer. We love our new sign!

national geographic booksHow did National Geographic pick the ReStore to receive this exciting donation? Bill O’Donnell, National Geographic’s Director of Retail and Special Sales, supports Habitat for Humanity’s mission to give low income families the opportunity to afford their own homes. O’Donnell has swung a hammer on several Habitat for Humanity building projects and has seen first-hand the difference a home can make to a family’s quality of life. Knowing that ReStores provide funds that help Habitat’s home building efforts, donating National Geographic merchandise to the local ReStore seemed like an ideal way to help support this nonprofit.

Schoolhouse Supplies provides teachers with free supplies for their students – supplies that teachers would otherwise purchase so that their students aren’t forced to do without. The Children’s Book Bank provides books to underprivileged children. Each child receives a bag full of a variety of books that are the child’s to keep. Adequate school supplies and books in the home can have a tremendously positive influence on a young child’s life. The ReStore is honored to share its gift with these essential local organizations.

Huge Thanks to Columbia Vista

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

On a clear day in December, the Clark County Habitat ReStore got an early Christmas gift – a Columbia Vista semi-truck stacked with beautiful Doug Fir lumber pulling up to the donation door. In making this donation, Columbia Vista shows their commitment to affordable housing in Clark County, yet their dedication to the community doesn’t stop with the Habitat ReStore.

A quick look around Columbia Vista’s website and you will quickly learn that they are not just dedicated to producing high quality lumber, they also take care of the environment and their employees. A number of awards and certifications, ranging from the Forest Stewardship Council ensuring the use of sustainable lumber, a Washington Labor & Industries certification for exemplary safety performance, and NSF-ISR: ISO 14001 certification that at least 65 % of all their open market log purchases come from sustainable forests cover the pages.

Vice President of Columbia Vista, Scott Stormoen spoke about how the company supports the idea of community. ” We try to encourage our employees to become involved socially in their communities by providing education benefits and through our home loan program. We offer interest-free forgivable home loans to our employees who are first-time homebuyers. These benefits give people a reason to stay, and our employees become positive and responsible influences, both at work and in their neighborhoods.”

The Habitat ReStore gives a huge thanks to Columbia Vista for making this great donation. It was the store’s first large lumber donation after it opened in March of last year. Columbia Vista Corp truly is, as their slogan says, “Quality People Making Quality Products For The Future”.
