How did National Geographic pick the ReStore to receive this exciting donation? Bill O’Donnell, National Geographic’s Director of Retail and Special Sales, supports Habitat for Humanity’s mission to give low income families the opportunity to afford their own homes. O’Donnell has swung a hammer on several Habitat for Humanity building projects and has seen first-hand the difference a home can make to a family’s quality of life. Knowing that ReStores provide funds that help Habitat’s home building efforts, donating National Geographic merchandise to the local ReStore seemed like an ideal way to help support this nonprofit.
National Geographic’s gift was too good not to share, and the ReStore is giving teachers’ reference materials to Schoolhouse Supplies and preschool books to the Children’s Book Bank. Schoolhouse Supplies provides teachers with free supplies for their students – supplies that teachers would otherwise purchase so that their students aren’t forced to do without. The Children’s Book Bank provides books to underprivileged children. Each child receives a bag full of a variety of books that are the child’s to keep. Adequate school supplies and books in the home can have a tremendously positive influence on a young child’s life. The ReStore is honored to share its gift with these essential local organizations.
