Background Check Policy

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore values the safety of children, our employees, volunteers and the families we serve. We want to take prudent measures to protect our human and material resources and therefore have decided to require that criminal background checks and sex offender registry checks be conducted for all potential board members, employees key volunteers, and in particular, those who may have unsupervised contact with a child, the elderly or persons with disabilities.  

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore reserves the right to re-check criminal backgrounds and sex offender registries at any time during the course of employment and/or service.

Based on this policy we will be administering background checks for volunteers who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • volunteer with the specific position of Cashier or Driver, or one who is placed in a supervisory role
  • volunteer 4 times per month for 3 months
  • is requesting over 48 hours of community service with the Habitat for Humanity ReStores
